Can you tell me a little bit about Better in Boxes and how you got started?

With Better In Boxes people are able to enjoy luxury grazing in the comforts of their own home. All of our boxes are inspired by cities around the world.

I’ve been involved in the food industry for over 28 years. We kickstarted the idea back in September when a customer asked me to create 8 grazing boxes for her special occasion. At the same time I was planning on creating my own grazing table for my 50th birthday party.

I was brainstorming over different name ideas. My daughter was my biggest critic and did not like any of them. She told me that we could do “better” and that’s what sparked the name Better In Boxes.

What do you love about being a small business in Halifax?

I love being apart of a community and society that supports each other. By having a small business in Halifax I am able to connect with the locals as well as support local.

How was your experience starting a new business in the midst of a pandemic?

My experience has been very positive. I believe our boxes have given people a sense of normalcy during these times. I am very thankful for all of the support.

What is one big thing you’ve learned in 2020 as a business owner?

I have learned how important it is to give back to our community.

I have learned how important it is to give back to our community. At the moment a portion of proceeds from two of our holiday boxes will be donated to Feed Nova Scotia.
